Black Spruce Essential Oil

What does this mean?

Inci:  Picea Mariana Leaf.

A very crisp and fresh smelling oil with a slightly green note and balsamic earthiness. It is very different to standard pine. When blended into creams and gels, it develops a very soft, woodsy aroma that is quite comforting.

A colourless to yellow oil that is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves from the Black Spruce tree in Canada.
Black Spruce blends very well with Sandalwood essential oil for long term exhaustion.

When combined with other soothing oils like Fragonia and Eucalyptus, the overall effect is enhanced in products for muscular tension.

Works well when added to Calendula Oil to use in foot creams.

  • Black Spruce essential oil is one of the first choice oil for use with overworked muscles. That can be from overdoing it in the gym or something completely different like spending long hours hunched over a computer. It relaxes tight and tense muscles and, as it is calming and soothing, your muscles can relax into a natural state.
  • It can be blended in a carrier oil and massaged into your feet to help un-bunch your toes, and is excellent in a foot bath.
  • Blended with a vegetable oil and put into the bath, you can soak your muscle tensions away. It helps with stiff joints and tendonitis. Be sure to rinse out the bath afterwards, so it is not slippery.
  • In a diffuser, it helps to shift catarrh and sinus congestion. Only a little is needed, and the aroma is very attractive.
  • Black Spruce is a good choice to include in oil blends or gels for achey joints.
  • It has a long held reputation for helping with stress and fatigue. Obviously, this is in part down to how it helps with your muscles. But long term stress can run you down in the long term, and Black Spruce is very relaxing and uplifting at the same time. When you feel overwhelmed, Black Spruce can give you a little clarity and help you feel grounded.
  • Use in an oil burner or diffuser to clear your mind and create a tranquil space.
Hair Care
  • Although there are no direct hair benefits with this oil, we do recommend trying it in a shampoo. It is refreshing and stimulating to your scalp and at the same time, seems to relax your mind. It seems to make the shower experience a little calmer and more serene.

Traditional Aromatherapy Uses
Traditionally used by qualified aromatherapists to help relax the chest muscles and assist easier breathing. It is good at clearing congestion.
Historical Information
The Black Spruce is native to Canada and there are huge forests. Because it is a small tree, it has not been used much for timber, but has been used a lot for pulpwood production.
Indigenous Americans used many parts of the tree for providing relief to the skin and muscular problems, understanding that the wildlife that lived within the forest added to the energy of the tree.
