Isopropyl Alcohol

What does this mean?

Inci: Isopropyl Alcohol

Isopropyl Alcohol is a colourless, flammable chemical compound with a fairly strong odour. The Isopropyl Alcohol that we stock has been selected for its purity of colour and odour.

If you wish to buy more than 1 Litre at a time then please contact our customer services. We can ship this to Mainland UK and certain European countries in quantities above 1L per shipment. This is because of the Dangerous Goods Nature of this product as it's classified as UN1219, Packing Group II meaning we can't ship it with some couriers and certain services.

Why are we stocking it - Aromantic have taken the decision to stock Isopropyl Alcohol due to the growing concerns over the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the world. Although this is an ingredient that we would not normally stock we have had many requests from our customers asking if we could make an exception in these exceptional circumstances. We are happy to have secured stock as a result of these requests and our considered thoughts on the matter.

Isopropyl alcohol is also known as 2-propanol. It may sometimes be referred to as rubbing alcohol which is often used on sports injuries such as sprains and muscular aches and pains.

Isopropyl alcohol is commonly used in products such as hand sanitisers and can be used when layering Melt and Pour Glycerine Soap as it helps the layers to stick together. It may also be used to spritz bath bomb mixture to help it stick together much like Witch Hazel Water. It can be used in alcohol based deodorant recipes too. It is widely used in antiseptics, disinfectants and detergents

It cannot be used with Xanthan Gum as this precipitates out of the solution and leaves the solution unthickened. It may be used with some synthetic thickeners/polymers but we are unable to advise on this.

Isopropyl alcohol is miscible in water. It is not miscible in salt solutions.

It evaporates quickly and is often used to clean off oily residue on equipment and glassware.

Use 60-90% Isopropyl Alcohol in solutions with 10-40% water and other water soluble ingredients such as glycerin.

If using in a hand sanitiser it is important to note the following:

A 70% solution of Isopropyl Alcohol in water is said to be the most efficient as the water causes the Isopropyl Alcohol to evaporate less quickly therefore it is in contact with the skin for longer while it does its job. The alcohol/water mix penetrates the cell membranes of the microorganisms then spreads throughout them effectively killing them off.

Replace the lid of the container immediately after use to prevent evaporation of the product.

Skin Care

It is less drying to the skin than ethanol so is more suited to use in hand sanitisers, especially for those who need to use them frequently.

Hair Care

No direct Usage

Use as a cleaning spray around the house with freshening essential oils such as Lemon and Grapefruit but don’t use it on quartz or granite surfaces. Dilute the Isopropyl Alcohol first. See the recipe that is included below.

Clean makeup brushes by swirling the brushes around in a small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol and water then rinsing and drying them.

It can also be used to deodorise smelly trainers. Spray a mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol, water and a blend of Rosemary, Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils into your trainers, leave to air dry.

For those of you with children who love stickers, the glue residue can easily be removed by wiping it with Isopropyl Alcohol.

Keep away from the eyes.

Isopropyl alcohol vapour is denser than air and is flammable, therefore it should be kept away from heat and open flame sources.

Replace lid of container immediately after use to prevent evaporation of the product.

This product is not for human consumption or for use on babies and small children.
