Organic Pomegranate Seed oil is a cold pressed oil with a mildly acidic aroma that quickly disappears when blended. It is a bright yellow colour and contains Vitamins A, B D and E as well as the minerals potassium and magnesium.
It contains Punicic Acid which is also known as Omega 5. This rare essential fatty acid is abundant in Pomegranate Seed oil which is the only known botanical source.
Omega 5 has strong anti inflammatory properties and is a good antioxidant. It tackles free radicals so delays skin ageing. Studies show that it provides protection from sun damage.
Do not consider this to be an oil with a high SPF because it is not, but studies suggest that if sun damage has already occurred Pomegranate Seed oil can help to diminish that damage. It also contains Ellagic Acid which is a natural phenol antioxidant. This natural combination of Punicic Acid and Ellagic Acid makes the oil very regenerative and even helps to stimulate collagen production.
Punica Granatum Seed Oil
Organic Pomegranate Seed oil has a nice texture as it is a dry oil that sinks readily into the skin without leaving any greasy residue. Such a high content of Gamma Linolenic Acid (Punicic Acid) makes this a very stable oil. Its high polyphenol content (antioxidant) also adds to this stability. It has been found to contain more natural antioxidants than green tea or red wine!
Because it is a powerful antioxidant it tackles free radicals, a property that makes it essential in any anti ageing formulation. It works very well applied neat to the skin before moisturising.
Pomegranate Seed Oil is extremely high in Punicic Acid which acts as an anti inflammatory thus helping to reduce inflamed skin and regenerate new skin cell production, improving the elasticity and tone of the skin. Research has shown that the oil stimulates keratinocytes which are skin cells found in the epidermis. Regeneration of these cells can noticeably improve the appearance of the epidermis (outer skin layer) giving a fresher and younger look possibly even reversing existing damage. As it can accelerate the production of new, healthy, skin cells it can help in improving the condition of acne damaged skin.
It is an excellent oil to include in after sun products for its ability to moisturise and reduce redness due to the Ellagic Acid content.
Organic Pomegranate Seed oil also helps to nourish and replenish skin that suffers from pollution damage, revitalising it.
As it has anti inflammatory properties it has been found to calm irritation and redness of the skin. This makes it a good choice for eczema and psoriasis prone skin on the body or for itchy conditions like seborrheic dermatitis or eczema on the scalp or in the hairline. It combines well with Chickweed oil which has soothing anti itch properties.
The anti inflammatory properties make it desirable to use in massage and oil blends for aching muscles and joints. Combine it with Fragonia and Plai essential oils for an after sports massage blend.
Organic Pomegranate Seed oil is very nourishing in all hair treatments. It is very penetrative so combine with Camellia Seed oil, Coconut oil and Argan oil for superb results. It detangles the hair and gives it a smooth, shiny appearance. Warm the oil, apply then leave on for an hour or overnight before washing out.
If you have very dry, coarse, curly hair you can even use a few drops of Pomegranate Seed oil on the palms of your hands or a hairbrush and pull it through your hair. This revitalises dull and dry looking hair. It will not leave the hair looking greasy but it will be instantly conditioned, giving some protection from heat styling tools.
The scalp will also benefit from massaging with Pomegranate Seed oil, improving the blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles, reducing the possibility of dandruff. Add Geranium essential oil to balance the sebum production of the scalp.
Pomegranate Seed oil is suitable for all skin types.
For dry skin it is intensively nourishing and moisturising, alleviating the dryness and improving the texture of the skin. It smoothes fine lines and wrinkles.
For normal skin it is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals which delays the visible signs of ageing. It nourishes the epidermis and keeps the skin pliable and young looking.
For oily skin and acne prone skin it penetrates easily into the skin without leaving a greasy after feel. It is non comedogenic, will soothe irritation from spots and boils and reduce the scarring caused by severe acne.
For mature skin it is a rich source of Ellagic Acid which revitalises and brightens the skin tone and minimises fine lines and wrinkles. It helps with collagen production, firming the skin.
For sensitive skin it is very soothing and hydrating.
The aqueous extract of pomegranate has also been shown to boost procollagen production so combine with Pomegranate Glycerol Extract in creams and lotions for this effect.
As it penetrates the skin deeply, Organic Pomegranate Seed oil can be used to help draw other active ingredients into the skin.

Weigh all stage 1 materials into a stainless steel bowl and place into a saucepan of boiling water (double boiler / bain marie). Bring up to a temperature of over 75°C.
When the stage 1 is over 75°C, add the glycerol extract and boiling water to a larger stainless steel bowl. Swap the bowls over so the larger bowl is in the double boiler. Pour the stage 1 (fat stage) ingredients into the large bowl (stage 2) and stir gently without creating air bubbles. Once everything is over 75°C, continually stir for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, remove bowl from the double boiler and put into a pan of cold water to cool it down quickly. Keep stirring all the time.
Dissolve the Vitamin B3 in 7% cold spring water while stage 1 is heating up.

The pomegranate has long been used as a symbol representing fertility, health and eternal life. The plant originated in the Middle East and is now grown in the Mediterranean, Southern Europe, North Africa, Southeast Asia and Southwest U.S.A.
The deciduous tree grows to a height of 5-8 metres and is very long lived. The fruits bearing many little red berries, containing the seeds, are known as arils. It takes over 500kg of fresh pomegranates to produce just 1kg of oil.
