What is it?

Popularly called “The Fountain of Youth”, it is a common ingredient in skin care products, added for its skin rejuvenation properties. Aromantic's Hyaluronic Acid is made by producing enzymes from a bacteria-based biofermentation process and NOT sourced from poultry (roosters' combs), as are many others. Hyaluronic acid is what gives the skin its volume and fullness. It is one of the chief components of the extracellular skin matrix and it contributes significantly to cell proliferation. Aging can result in the loss of hyaluronic acid, which in turn results in skin that has less volume and the formation of wrinkles and folds. The product is a colourless gel made from: 1% Hyaluronic Acid Eco (100% Powder); 1% Preservative Eco; and 98% water.

Action/Benefits

• It is the most efficient humectant that can attract from 600-1000 times its own weight in water so it plumps up the skin and gives it volume.
• Its hydrating properties result in increased skin smoothness, softening and decreased wrinkles.
• Its rejuvenating properties result in increased skin smoothness and softness. It also protects the cell structure and defending against external threats and bacterial infections.
• It also exhibits viscous flow, elastic and pseudoplastic properties. This property is unique to HA.
• By its nature, hyaluronic acid retains water like a sponge and has the ability to absorb a thousand times more than its own weight and plays an important role in tissue hydration, lubrication and cellular function. In short, it is an excellent skin moisturiser.
• When the body cannot produce enough of coenzyme Q10 on its own anymore, then low molecular weight hyaluronic acid can penetrate through the skin to reestablish the hyaluronic acid content to more youthful levels.     
• Alex Schauss, Ph.D., Director of Natural and Medicinal Products Research at AIBMR Life Sciences, explained that aging causes variations in natural hyaluronic acid concentrations in the skin. He points out that enhanced hyluronic acid levels seem to increase collagen production.
• It also protects the cell structure and defending against external threats and bacterial infections.

Water or oil-soluble?

Water-soluble.

Can I add it to oil serums or ready-made products?

You should not add it to oil serums or oil blends as it will separate but you can add it to all skin rejuvenating and moisturising already-made products. Simply stir in the correct dose thoroughly.

Recommended dosage and how to use in products

Dosage: 1-10%. Note: Dosages of 5-10% of the Gel are super-moisturising and will create a premium, luxury product. Add it during the third stage of making creams and lotions or when the temperature of the product you are making, e.g. gels, is under 40°C.

Storage and Shelf Life

2-3 years (see label for best before date). Store at cool temperature in an airtight container in a dark place away from sunlight.

Tips/Extra Information

Currently, there are no known side effects for most externally or topically applied hyaluronic acid products such as serums and creams or even pills and liquid formulations taken internally. However, there appear to be problems and some side effects associated with injecting hyaluronic acid into the face and breasts.
