An intensely lemon fragrance that is refreshing with spicy and fruity undertones. Sweeter than Lemongrass.

A pale yellow, volatile oil obtained from steam distillation of the fresh fruits of the Litsea Cubeba plant.

Skin Care

Effective at controlling excessive perspiration so it would be useful in a deodorant.


As a mild astringent, use it in acne prone skin products but only if the skin is unbroken.


Makes oily skin less greasy.


Antifungal and antibacterial for using in foot creams and gels.


Calms the mind and physically relaxes the body, so use in spa body treatments like massage and wraps.


Hair Care

Antibacterial so it is useful to have in a body wash or shampoo.


It gives a strong lemony fragrance that shines through in a shampoo blend and is very uplifting. Acts as a fixative to the other essential oils used in the blend.



Use in an oil burner to give a very uplifting and relaxed atmosphere.


Calms down stress and gives an emotional lift in massage products.


Suggested Blends

Use with Citronella and Lavender as an insect repellant.


Combine with Lavender in an antifungal foot cream.


Use with Tea Tree as a general surface cleanser in a water spray.



Do not use during pregnancy. Avoid using on sensitive skin or broken skin.

Traditional Aromatherapy Uses

Traditionally used by qualified aromatherapists as an antispasmodic for the lungs to ease breathing.


Works well with Frankincense to relax the diaphragm.


As a tonic to the nervous system where it can relieve anxiety and lift you “out of the blues”.


Historical Information

Used in perfumery for centuries as a stable lemon note.


Also has been used in soapmaking for centuries as it fixes the fragrance of true citrus notes like Grapefruit better than when used on their own.
