A deep, soft, sweet, woody, balsamic scent that lingers for a long time.

A pale yellow, viscous liquid obtained by steam distillation of the powdered, dry, heartwood of the sandalwood tree. The tree has to be at least 30 years old before it starts to develop heartwood.

Skin Care

A superb oil for hydrating  and giving a radiant glow to the skin.

Even though it rehydrates dry skin, it also has an astringent effect so it tones the skin and makes it firmer.

Excellent for dry, cracked and chapped skin so include in hand creams and foot creams.

It works well with oily skin, scars, acne and eczema prone skin.

It soothes irritated skin and helps scars and spots to heal much faster.

We feel it’s always worth buying the most you can afford of Sandalwood as, even though it has to legally have a best before date, it actually improves with age.

Hair Care

It tones an oily scalp and helps with eczema prone scalps.

As it is a diuretic, it would make a deeply relaxing, detoxifying body wrap.

Very calming and harmonising, Sandalwood has always been used for meditation and ritual.

It is an excellent fixative and keeps other fragrance notes stable.

Suggested Blends

Combine with Geranium to balance dry and oily skin.

Use with Fragonia in an after shave oil blend to stop beard bump.

Use with Shea Butter for cracked heels in a foot cream, as it is also antifungal.

Blend with Helichrysum to minimise scar damage on skin.

Traditional Aromatherapy Uses

Traditionally used by qualified aromatherapists to tone the adrenal glands. This takes a while to do but will then reduce the incidence of allergic reactions like hay fever and asthma.

It calms anxiety and releases depression, stress, nervous tension and even fear so is effective in helping to come off mind drugs like ecstasy.

It works very well on chest and urinary tract problems and infections.

Especially effective with bereavement where you can feel “separate” from the rest of the world. It creates a very comfortable “womb like” feeling that helps with insomnia and depression.

Historical Information

In Hindu religious ceremonies, Sandalwood is an indispensable part of the ritual and tradition for all aspects of life from birth through to death.
