A One-Day course with Kolbjorn Borseth
Overview:
This advanced course combines theory and practice and is a very intensive course during which we make professional hair care products that can be for your own use, sold to your clients, or sold commercially to the public. A comprehensive range of course materials are provided for each student and several products made during the practical sessions are for students to take home.
Who will benefit from attending this course?
- Hairdressers/salons/therapists who want to enhance the service they provide to their clients who have hair care problems. These therapists/hairdressers may also want to create their own range of hair care products to sell to the public.
- Beauticians, herbalists, aromatherapists who already treat hair care problems and want to tailor-make hair care products for their clients.
- Homecrafters – who may have hair care problems or issues and may wish to make the products for their own use. They may also be interested in making hair care products for their friends or family.
- Those aspiring to/already sell natural hair care products to the public, either full or part-time.
Note: this course can be attended without first having to attend any of our other courses.

Course Contents:
We start the day with the theory part, talking about specific herbs for hair care products. Students will then be given a handout with basic information about 19 herbs that are commonly used in shampoos and conditioners and how to use the herbs.
After dividing the students up into groups of up to 4 per table, Kolbjorn will demonstrate and students will make 2 different hair packs from a choice of 4 hair packs: structurally damaged & brittle hair; dry hair; itchy scalp and hair loss.
After lunch, the students make 4 types of shampoos and shower gels. Students can choose from: 2 types of sensitive scalp shampoos; 2 dandruff shampoos; 1 protein shampoo; 2 hair loss shampoos; 1 itchy scalp shampoo; and 2 shower gels.
After a short break, the students make 2 types of hair gels and can choose form the following: hair loss; strengthening hair; to give shine and flexibility to dry or damaged hair; wet hair gel; moulding gel; plain hair gel. These recipes have many active ingredients in them.
Students will then make 2 types of hair oils, choosing from the following: damaged hair; damaged scalp; nourishing Indian head massage; rehydrating; anti-dandruff; itchy scalp; and hot oil hair compress; there is also a recipe for hair wax (but we won’t make this on the course).
Finally, students make 2 different types of natural, leave-on hair sprays and students can choose from the following: 3 hair loss recipes; 2 sensitive/itchy scalp recipes; 1 protein spray; 2 silky leave-in sprays (leaves hair soft and shiny).
The day is completed with a Questions & Answers session and the handing out of certificates.
NOTE: Before learning how to make a product Kolbjorn will discuss the benefits of the product and demonstrate the exact utensils and raw materials required. ALL raw materials and utensils are provided and students usually work in groups of 4 per table. A printed hand-out of the recipe and technique is also given to each student at the beginning of every demonstration. This enables the student to focus upon the 'hands-on' aspect of the session and ensures that each participant leaves with a complete set of notes and recipes for future reference.
