Skin Care
Aloe Vera is an excellent emollient making it soothing and calming on the skin.

It is extremely versatile and can be used in numerous products such as cleansers. One of its main advantages is that few people have a reaction to it so can be suitable for sensitive and problem skin.

It relieves the pain of sunburn and helps all types of burns to heal quicker by stimulating fibroblast and connective tissue formation. Add to gels and cooling lotions.

The same process also has an invigorating effect on the skin and is very rejuvenating in anti aging serums and night creams. This effect is enhanced when it is used on a regular basis.

Antiseptic and antibacterial properties along with the skin repairing, makes this an ideal choice for all acne prone skin products as it also reduces scarring.

Being antifungal, this is a great ingredient to add to foot gels and foot creams.

Excellent in after shaving lotions and serums as it is an anti inflammatory agent.

A great addition to all skin conditioning products.

Blend into facial spritzes and toners for rejuvenation.

Add to baby products where a calming and soothing effect is needed such as nappy rash creams and lotions.

Hair Care
Add to shampoos for eczema prone scalps dandruff and itchy scalp. It will also be beneficial in a hair conditioner for the same reasons.

It is water soluble, so cannot be used in oil only products.

Use at 0.5%. This means 0.5% powder to 99.5% or finished product.

It is a 1:200 concentrate so adding 0.5% to your product gives the optimum working level.

Store in a tightly closed bag away from direct sunlight in a cool environment.

Suggested Blends
It helps to condition the skin so can be blended with other raw materials that are suitable for sensitive skin.

Using an Aloe Vera Gel that has no oil in it can feel tight and drying on the skin.

Traditional Aromatherapy Uses
It has been used extensively for clients undergoing radiation treatment to alleviate the skin burns and condition the skin.

Historical Information
An aloe vera plant has been a windowsill plant in the kitchen for centuries. A leaf would be broken off and the fillet of gel squeezed out and applied to burns and other injuries. However, this cannot be used with the cosmetic formulations that we make, as the gel goes runny very quickly, discolours the product to a very dark shade and encourages bacterial growth. Using the fresh leaf is suitable for home first aid use only.
