Method
  • Weigh the cornflour into a mixing bowl. Weigh out all the other ingredients and add them all to the cornflour, including the colour and essential oil (if used).
  • Stir the ingredients together with a plastic mixing spoon until they are well mixed in, then scrape the mixture out onto a clean work surface sprinkled with cornflour so that it doesn’t stick.
  • Knead the mixture together until the colour is even, and the mixture is no longer sticky.
  • Mould into balls and put into a wee bowl to use and enjoy.
  • Break off small pieces, wet your hands and rub the Modelling Soap between your palms to make a lather, rinse off as usual.
If the mixture is too dry, add a little more Natural Surfactant Base / Liquid Castile Soap and mix in thoroughly. If it is too sticky, sprinkle over the surface with a little more cornflour and knead in, repeat until the mix is no longer sticky.

Natural Surfactant Base can be substituted with Liquid Castile Soap at the same quantity.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please see the below response from our Research and Development Team;

“We wouldn’t recommend that. To add a preservative, it would have to be Preservative Eco to be effective with the surfactants used. That can be used as a rinse of product with young children, but not a leave on product. Obviously, this is a rinse off product, the temptation to play with it longer that you would normally use a soap, would leave me unsure whether it would be a good idea. We developed this so that half the fun was actually making it and not just using it, so sorry, it’s not a long shelf life product.”

How could you increase its shelf life safely, and children could still safely use it? Thanks

“As it does not contain a preservative it should be used within a week.”
