Preservative K |
1) Aromantic Recipes
usually contain dosages for preservatives that are appropriate for Parabens
(normally 10 drops). If you are using Preservative K instead of Parabens,
then increase the dosage from 10 to 18 drops.
2) If using Preservative K as your Preservative in your Recipes,
you must add 0.5% of Lactic Acid after you’ve added the in the Fourth
Stage, or at the end of the Recipe
if there is no Fourth Stage.
3) As a result of the use of Potassium Sorbate, Preservative
K raises the pH of the product (alkaline reaction). After it has been
incorporated into the cosmetic product, the pH value of the product therefore
has to be adjusted. After having added all of your raw materials and Preservative
K, then test the pH. If it is over 5.5, add from 0.3 - 0.5% Lactic Acid
and retest the pH. When the pH is under 5.5, your products will keep for
1.5-3 years, depending on the product. When testing a cream,
smear the Litmus Paper with the cream
and scrape it off after 1 minute to reveal the pH. If you have a liquid
product e.g. Shampoos, simply dip the Litmus Paper in for 30 seconds and
the colour will be easily revealed.
