Product Description

Organic Sunflower Oil (Linoleic) is the ultimate multi-tasking carrier oil for modern skincare formulators, aromatherapists, and massage therapists. It is ideal for the preparation of a wide range of skincare and haircare products. Pressed from certified-organic sunflower seeds using cold pressing, this pale-gold, virtually odourless oil glides over the skin with a silky, non-occlusive feel, delivering instant softness without shine. Its high linoleic acid content (≈ 57%) mirrors the skin’s lipid structure, allowing fast absorption and lightweight nourishment even for oily or sensitive skin. Because it’s stable at moderate temperatures, Organic Sunflower Oil can be added to the fat phase of lotions and creams or used neat for facial massage. The oil has a neutral aroma, making it a great base for essential oil blends, and its smooth slip makes it easy to glide over the skin in professional bodywork.

Skin Feel, Absorption & Finish

With its balanced omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acid ratio—including monounsaturated fatty acids, which help provide a lightweight, non-greasy finish—Organic Sunflower Oil sinks in quickly, leaving the skin comfortably hydrated, and never sticky. The finish is satiny rather than shiny, making it a favourite in leave-on facial products where a lightweight after-feel is key.

How to use it

• Use 1% to 100%.
  
  
• Oil soluble so cannot be used in water-only products. It can be used in small amounts in water-based gels that will hold it in suspension.
  
  
• Heat stable so can be used in Stage 1 (fat stage) when making creams and lotions.

Skin Care

• Sunflower Oil is most traditionally known for its use as a massage oil as it is rich in Omega 6 and several important Vitamins. It has a light texture and an easy absorption rate. It is best blended with a small amount of heavier oils like Macadamia Oil or Castor Oil to give even greater slip.

• It is excellent for soothing dry and chapped skin whilst reducing redness and maintaining hydration levels. It penetrates well and does not leave an oily residue, which makes it ideal to use in a daily hand cream where the skin has been degraded. For the same reasons, it is also great to use in lip balms.

• The good levels of Omega 6 in the oil promote moisture retention in the skin. It makes heavier oil blends feel thinner and more elegant, which makes it useful when using heavier oils that are needed for dry and mature skin types, but still do not want to feel weighed down.

• Sunflower Oil is beneficial in acne-prone skin products as it soothes and calms the skin. Blend with Omega 3-rich oils like Rosehip, Chia Seed, and Kiwi Seed oils to maximise the effect, as well as low freezing point oils like Hazelnut Oil to rebalance the oily skin. When blended with Thistle Oil, this will be beneficial for skin with large pores.

• Good for all skin types, including sensitive skin, where it smoothes and softens the skin.

Hair Care

• Sunflower Oil softens the hair shaft without making it feel sticky or greasy.

• It conditions the scalp and helps to keep dandruff at bay.

Massage

• Sunflower Oil blends very well with drier (like Chia Seed Oil) and heavier (like Castor Oil) oils for massage oil blend that is well balanced with Omegas 3,6 and 9.
  
  
• It blends very well in a 50:50 ratio with Sweet Almond Oil for massage.
