What is it? We previously stocked Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) as Cold Emulsifier (Organic) but now as the supplier is so impressed with the work Mike Harmon has done with them to develop the scope of its use, the supplier has made Aromantic an exclusive UK distributor. Mike's testing and formulating with Sucragel AOF Bio has led to creating a Masterclass on the use of the product. It's a very exciting product with which you can make up to 100% organic products! You can use Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) in creams, lotions, cleansers, bath oils, and scrubs and no heating needed!
Sucragel AOF Bio is a 100% natural, preservative-free, oil-thickening and emulsifying ingredient based on sugar chemistry. The emulsifier and oil-thickener is composed of oil, water, glycerine and Sucrose Laurate. Its simplest use is as a liquid emulsifier for cold process Oil-in-Water (O/W) emulsions. However, its main redeeming quality is its ability to gel almost any oily ingredient such as vegetable oils, butters and waxes into clear oily gels. It is a hazy, pale yellow liquid gel produced in the United Kingdom, so has a low carbon footprint. General dosage: 6-98%; For creams and lotions: 6-8%.
Ingredients sourced from Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) is based on a particular sugar ester, sucrose laurate, which is one of the most interesting and versatile sugar esters, but also one of the most difficult to use. By blending this product into a base with recognisable, natural ingredients, a truly functional product results.
Classification ORG N =Natural raw material treated in order to access other properties of the raw material e.g. the conversion of palm oil into VE Emulsifier.
Permitted for use in organic/natural products? As this is an organic, natural, plant-based ingredient you can definitely add it to organic and natural products. Sucrose laurate is suitable for use in organically certified products. Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) contains 94% organic ingredients.
Production method Sugar esters are made by combining sucrose with a fatty acid via an esterification reaction. There are many grades available and they are used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. They are predominantly used as emulsifiers, although they do have other unique properties, such as being able to form stable oily gels, which emulsify on contact with water. They are extremely mild and have a long history of safe use.
Naturalness This is a 100% natural thickener and emulsifier. discuss w. kb This emulsifier is a combination of natural and derived natural raw materials of plant origin manufactured from the named natural raw material/s in the Declaration. It is PEG-, Preservative-, solvent- and GMO-free. Note: PEG= polyethylene glycol. The glycerine in the product is non palm-derived organic glycerine sourced from the nut oil of the Karanja tree.

More information and tips about Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) As Sucragel AOF Bio contains up to 50% glycerine, you dont need to add anymore to your recipes. By using 6% of the emulsifier, you will have 3% glycerine in your cream already. Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) is an emulsifier and oil thickening agent; it can also be used on its own. It has been developed for use at room temperature but can be used at elevated temperature if needed (up to 80°C). Always add the oil stage into the Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) first and if needed, add the water phase afterwards. To make an oily gel the oil needs to be added slowly, under rapid propeller stirring (or an electric blender with dough hook), into the Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) at a ratio of roughly 80% oil to 20% of the emulsifier. The more of the Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) is used the thinner the oily gel will be. For Recipes, see the Natural Skin Care Library in the main menu at the top of each page or attend Masterclass: Sucragel Organic Emulsifier. See Course listings for more information or to book. Restrictions when using Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) The products made with Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) are sensitive to extreme pH values. Gels, creams and lotions, etc made with Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) should be kept above pH 4.5 and below pH 8 or the emulsion will be unstable. The oily gels can tolerate a reasonable amount of electrolytes (formulation of salt scrubs) although the emulsions are quite sensitive to electrolytes. When making creams with Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic), they tend to become sticky as quite a lot of gel needs to be added to a cream when using this emulsifier. Lotions made with Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) tended to have a better skin feeling as they are less sticky but our own latest formulation experiments show that replacing a cellulose-based cream with a Konjac Glucomannan Powder + Xanthan Gum based cream produces a far less sticky cream. Further Information For Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) Recipes tried and tested by Mike Harmon see the Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) page in the Natural Skin Care Library in the main menu the top of each page. Aromantic have a new course that shows you how to use Sucragel AOF Bio (Organic) to its full potential - Masterclass: Sucragel Organic Emulsifier - which will be held on 28th June 2012 for the first time in London. See Course listings for more information or to book.
