INCI Name

New Recommended Dosage (December 2010) is 12-15 drops/0.5-0.6g/0.5-0.6% per 100ml/g of product you are using it in.

Properties

• Only works for products with a pH value less than 5.5.
• After having added all of your Raw Materials, Essential Oils and Preservative K, then test the pH.
• If over 5.5, add from 0.3-0.5% Lactic Acid and retest the pH.
• When under 5.5pH, your products will keep for 1.5-3 years, depending on the product.
• When testing a Cream, smear the Litmus Paper with the Cream and scrape it off after 1 minute to reveal the pH.

Conversion from grams to drops

1g Preservative 12 = approximately 25 drops (from our 30ml glass dropper not any other dropper)

Very Important Information

The best method for measuring the Preservatives when adding to your products is to weigh them on a very good scale that weighs down to 0.1 grams. If you still decide to continue using drops to measure our Preservatives, we now recommend using  different quantities depending on which of our Preservatives you are using in your products. In our recipes that you may have from old Newsletters, our books and recipe brochures, you’ll often find that we don’t say  which preservative to use, we simply say ‘x’ number of drops of ‘Preservative’ in the recipe. As I mentioned before, you need to decide how much of a Preservative you will put into your own products, but these are my new recommendations:

• OLD number of drops of Preservatives we mostly recommended in our books, articles, newsletters, courses and recipes WAS:
  12 drops (0.6ml/g) per 100ml/g/% of product
• Manufacturer's dosage recomemndations:
  0.5-1.5%
• Our NEW recommended dosage when using Preservative K NOW:
  12-15 drops/0.5-0.6g/0.5-0.6% per 100ml/g/% of product
• Recommended dosage when using Preservative K in products containing herbal infusions or decoctions STAYS THE SAME:
  25 drops/0.9ml/1g/1% per 100ml/g/% per product
