Course Contents:
The course starts with a theory part, with the history of spa treatments. This information about hydrotherapy, specifically Kneipp hydrotherapy, which uses exact temperatures for different ailments.
The students are then divided into groups of 4, and Kolbjorn demonstrates how to make bath melts, after which the students make the bath melts (practical). A bath melt is a bath product that you put under running hot water and it will melt and foam in the bath, releasing fragrance and oil, which is healing and soothing to the skin. Depending on which essential oils you add the bath melt; they can be beneficial for bad colds, stress, muscle pain or simply indulgent luxury!
Next students make body butters, using a new and easier method that Kolbjorn has developed. Students choose which types of body butters to make: for different skin types; anti-wrinkle; black skin; or chocolate.
After lunch Kolbjorn demonstrates how to make creams/lotions, then students make exfoliating creams and peeling lotions. We will use two different emulsifiers when making these creams/lotions.
Students will also get comprehensive information about different raw materials for cleansing, exfoliating, scrubbing and peeling.
This is followed by making an exfoliant based on sea salt and students learn how to add colours to products.
Students then make 3 types of active skin toners, again you choose which recipes to make: different skin types; skin conditions e.g. acne; different skin rejuvenating toners; or concentration/uplifting toner.
If we have time left, students will make a foam bath or face oil. Whether we make these or not, you will get the recipes for them, and many other products.
NOTE : Before learning how to make a product Kolbjorn will discuss the benefits of the product and demonstrate the exact utensils and raw materials required. ALL raw materials and utensils are provided and students usually work in groups of 4 per table. A printed hand-out of the recipe and technique is also given to each student at the beginning of every demonstration. This enables the student to focus upon the 'hands-on' aspect of the session and ensures that each participant leaves with a complete set of notes and recipes for future reference.
The day is completed with a Questions & Answers session and the handing out of certificates.
