This saponin-rich fruit powder of the Acacia concinna tree & extracts are often used in natural shampoos or hair powders.

A Natural Shampoo Remedy. Called in India ‘Shikakai’, meaning ‘fruit of the hair’, the saponin-rich fruit of the Acacia concinna tree and extracts are often used in natural shampoos or hair powders. The pod-like fruit has been traditionally powdered and used as a natural shampoo in India and other Asian countries as the high levels of saponins makes it very effective in cleansing the hair and scalp of dirt and oils. The pods of Shikakai have high levels of natural detergent called saponins, and so it can be used instead of conventional detergents. The powder can also be used instead of detergents such as Betaine directly in Peelers and Cleansers. Please be aware that it doesn’t produce the same lather that regular shampoo does, but it is still an effective natural cleanser.

Acacia Powder is mild and doesn’t strip the scalp. It has an antioxidant effect and cools the scalp. It also helps to provide and maintain hair glossiness and shine. Extracts of the ground pods have been used for various skin diseases. It is found to the following: eczema, psoriasis, itchy skin, sensitive skin. The powdered pods are the best alternatives to soaps in all cases of skin diseases. Dosage: For Cleansers, Peelers – replace the Detergent and the Boiling Water in the Recipe with 3-4g of Acacia Powder that has been boiled for 20-30 minutes in 100ml per water (multiply quantity as required) and then strained; Peeling Gels – replace the Spring Water with 3-4% Acacia Powder that has been boiled for 20-30 minutes and strained; For Extra Sensitive Hand Wash you can simply put ½ teaspoon of the Acacia Powder in your hands, rubbing them together under warm running water. In this way you get both natural detergent as well as a exfoliating agent.

Storage & Safety
In a clean, cool and dry area, protected from light. As with all powders, wear a mask when dealing with large quantities and keep the working area well-ventilated. Protect eyes, throat and lungs.
