Description

What is it?

Leaves from Australia. Often used in a diffuser or burner against flu and other viral infections, it is very effective. It appears to be more effective when used in weaker dilutions under 2% than when used neat. This is quite often the case with many oils in that less is more effective. Although tea tree does not dissolve in water, it can be added to a water spray and shaken to disperse to act as an airborne cleanser for a sick room or public areas. It can also be used as a plant anti fungal in the garden against blackspot, rust and mildew. It’s effective in the water softener or final rinse section of a washing machine as an antibacterial agent to freshen clothes and bedding. It is restorative to the mind and body after shock. Excellent to clear lung and chest infections and to clear congestion.

Skin Care

It is a good anti fungal so ideal to add to foot creams and cuticle oils. For stubborn cases it can be used neat on the nail. Can also use a drop neat on cold sores or add to lip balm recipes for daily application. It relaxes muscular aches and pains so include in massage lotions and oils blends. Massage with tea tree blends before an operation have shown it to reduce post operative shock. Whilst we can never recommend that any essential oil is used internally, it is said to help with vaginal thrush and cystitis. Seek a professional aromatherapist’s advice for this. It is soothing to irritated skin such as sunburn and nappy rash.

Hair Care

Add to a shampoo to clear dandruff. Tests with tea tree added at 5% (which is much higher than normal useage) showed it to be effective when the shampoo is left on the hair for 3 minutes then rinsed off thoroughly. You would need to try it for yourself.

Suggested Blends

With cedarwood as in insect repellent. With eucalyptus and peppermint in steam inhalations to clear the chest.

Caution

Some individuals with sensitive skin may react if used in excess.
