Description

What is it?

Parts of the plant used are the roots. Asian Ginseng has been a part of Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. The first reference to the use of Asian ginseng dates to the 1st century A.D. Ginseng is commonly used by elderly people in the Orient to improve mental and physical vitality.

The word ‘panax’ comes from the Greek ‘panacea’ or ‘all-healing’, while ‘shen-seng’ translates as ‘man-root’ describing what it’s most useful medicinal part looks like. According to the ‘Doctrine of Signatures’, (the theory that states resemblance of different parts of plant to the different organs (in colour, shape, etc.), should be used for treatment of these specific organ systems) Ginseng can be used to strengthen any part of the body.

Action/Benefits

• Ginseng acts in the following ways:
• Adaptogen – adaptogenic herbs increase resistance and resilience to stress, enabling the body to adapt around the problem and avoid reaching collapse.
• Tonic – nurtures and enlivens the body. They are used frequently in Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, often as a preventative measure. Tonic herbs like Ginseng build vital energy, or qi. Ginseng combats the physical effects of stress.
• Stimulant – quickens and invigorates the physiological and metabolic activity of the body, including the immune system.
• Hypoglycaemic – decreases blood sugar level.
• Antioxidant – lowering the levels of free radicals in the blood, contributing to anti-aging effects.
• Ginseng is used in natural Skin Care products for its toning and vitalising effects on the skin. Ginseng helps to balance the oil gland production and improves the skin texture by preventing the formation of wrinkles. Add to Toners, Gels, Creams and Lotions.

Which products to use it in

• Use the Ginseng Tincture (5-15%) in creams, lotions, ointments, cleansers, peelers, toners, face masks, body butters and deodorants.
  Ginseng can be used in all kinds of anti-wrinkle and skin rejuvenation products.
• Used for its oil gland balancing qualities in all skin care products for oily and combination skin types.

Water soluble.

Can I add it to ready-made products?

You can add it to all ready made products, like creams, lotions and shampoos but beware that all of them become thinner when you add an alcohol based product to a product based on emulsifiers, detergents and gels.

Recommended Dosage/How to use in products

• Deodorant sprays you can use up to 80% as a blend of tinctures.
• In toners and face spritzers for oily skin use up to 30% as a possible blend of tinctures.
• Toners for other skin types use up to 20% as a possible blend of tinctures.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store in a cool dark place and tincture will keep for up to 6 years. 

Tips/Extra Information

1. Using Tinctures on the skin helps oily skin to dry up and by using Ginseng Tincture it also helps to rebalance the skin to a more normal skin type.
2. Remember when making products for oily skin types that they normally don’t need moisturisers like Hyaluronic Acid.

Related/Synergistic Products

1. Use it with Siberian Ginseng Extract in Gels, Creams, Lotions and Skin Toners for its cleansing, rejuvenating, toning, moisturising, anti-wrinkle and skin cell stimulant properties, although it is most effective in Gels. Siberian Ginseng Extract makes an effective combination with Panax Ginseng Tincture.
2. To enhance skin rejuvenation effects combine with Vitamins A, E, and C, Remodelling Intense, Hyaluronic Acid, Q10 plus E, Siberian Ginseng Extract etc.
3. For rebalancing oily or combination skin, combine with Epi-dermis and Sebum Balancer, Squalane, Jojoba Oil and Vegetable Oils high in omega 3 such as Kiwi Seed Oil and Chia Seed Oil.
4. Tinctures for both skin types added together with Ginseng Tincture: Nettle reduces oily secretions and Yarrow has an astringent effect so it helps to close large pores. Use Rose Geranium as an Essential Oil as it is a very effective sebum balancer.

30% Ginseng Tincture
20% Nettle Tincture
15% Gingko Tincture
15% Yarrow Tincture
10% Comfrey Leaf Tincture
10% Calendula Tincture

Add 5-15% of this blend to cleansers, toners, creams and gels etc.
