Description

What is it?

Comfrey's name derives from the Latin ‘con firma’, i.e. ‘with strength’, from the belief that it could heal broken bones. Long used to heal wounds, the Comfrey leaves and roots have been used to cure ailments ranging from stubborn leg ulcers to broken bones, and hence its common name of ‘boneset’ or ‘knitbone’. Comfrey has been used for centuries for its wound healing properties. Parts used are the leaves and roots.

Action/Benefits

• Plants like Comfrey, which have high carbohydrate content, are considered to rejuvenate the skin and to have healing, soothing and moisture retaining properties. They are good for rough, damaged skin and can, with time, alleviate wrinkling and enable skin tissue to regain its youthful elasticity. 
• Comfrey is mainly used externally to treat inflammation and to stimulate wound and bone fracture healing.
• Used for treating: tissue damage;  bone infections; gout; inflammations; sprains; tendonitis; aches and pains; post-operative wounds; sores which do not heal; eczema; psoriasis; varicose ulcers; boils; and varicose veins.
• Comfrey is a special beauty herb due to the high content of the phytochemical Allantoin which promotes skin cell regeneration, stimulates the growth of new cells and helps sensitive skin to become more resilient, counteracting dryness and cracking.

Water soluble.

Can I add it to ready-made products?

You can add it to all ready made products, like creams, lotions and shampoos but beware that all of them become thinner when you add an alcohol based product to a product based on emulsifiers, detergents and gels.

Recommended Dosage/How to use in products

• Deodorant sprays you can use up to 80% as a blend of tinctures.
• In toners and face spritzers for oily skin use up to 30% as a possible blend of tinctures.
• Toners for other skin types use up to 20% as a possible blend of tinctures.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store in a cool dark place and will keep for up to 6 years.

Tincture Healing Blend

60% Comfrey Leaf Tincture 
20% Calendula Tincture
15% St John’s Wort Tincture
5% Arnica Tincture

This blend of Tincture can be used for all kinds of healing purposes. Add to creams, lotions, gels and ointments.

Related/Synergistic Products

1. Comfrey Glycerol Extract can also be added to products already containing other Comfrey preparations such as Tinctures or Decoctions.  This will enhance the healing, moisturising and soothing effects of your product. It is particularly good to add the Glycerol Extract to Compresses, Shaving products, Shampoos, Foam Baths and Skin Toners.
2. Comfrey Leaf Tincture is excellent to blend with Calendula products such as Tincture and Macerated Oil.
3. Use combined with Arnica Tincture for sprains, bruises and fractures.
4. Works well with St John’s Wort and Witch Hazel products.
5. Comfrey Leaf Tincture is excellent to use together with other Comfrey products in creams, lotions and gels. Use Comfrey Leaf decoctions in the water stage, Comfrey Glycerol Extract as a moisturiser, Comfrey Oil Macerated, and Comfrey Tincture up to 15% giving an added preservative benefit.
